Heroes Square
nice monuments, not far from the spa, is on line 1 and at the top of Andrassy Avenue

Vorosmarty Square
nice square, again on line one, last station. It has a very famous old imperial cafe called Gerbauds

The Danube and the Danube Promenade
The Budapest Danube panorama has to be one of the most impressive city river views in the world. If you walk to the river from Vorosmarty Square you'll be on the Danube promenade. You'll find bars, cafes and restaurants along here. Promenade is stunning at night.

The Buda Castle and Castle District
On the Buda side of the Danube. The castle is impressive and so is the castle district. Just take a walk around the quaint and well preserved castle streets. Some great views of the city from up here also. Make sure to check out the Fisherman's Bastion while up here. You can get up to the castle district by either walking over the Chain Bridge or taking a the 16 bus from outside the Meridien Hotel on Deak Square.

The Labyrinth
This is in the castle district. It’s a series of tunnels under the district. Quite spooky but worth it!

The Dohany Synagogue
One of the most impressive in the world. The guided tour is extremely interesting. Closed obviously on Saturday. www.greatsynagogue.hu

The Parlament
A truly impressive gothic style building. Bring your EU passport for a discount.

Opera House
Beautiful building, guided tours. They have some good shows also! Timetable at www.opera.hu

Fashion Street
Behind the Meridien Hotel, near Vorosmarty Square. Interesting for a stroll.

Musuems

Museum of Terror
An interactive museum on the history of Communism and Nazism in Hungary. Is on Andrassy Avenue, at the metro stop Vorosmarty Utca

Ludvig Musem
Great modern art museum along the Danube.

Museum of Fine Arts
Set within a beautiful neo classical building on Heroes Square. Contains well known Dutch painting, Egyptian artefacts and lots more. Occasional jazz concerts held within. The Budapest version of the Prado or the British Museum.

The Alexandra Bookshop Café on Andrassy Ave
A truly impressive atrium style café.

Gerbauds
On Vorosmarty Square. Typical Austro-Hungarian Empire style café

Gundel Restaurant
At the city park, beside to zoo. Absolutely worth it for the Sunday Brunch. One of the best restaurants in the city. Ask your hotel to make a reservation. Brunch is not too expensive

Le Meridien
Another great value option for Sunday brunch. Located at Erzsebet / Deak Ference Sqaure, right in the Centre.

New York Café
One of the city’s most impressive and most celebrated. Particularly good for breakfast. At the Blaha Luijza metro and central line tram (6&4)

Onyk Restaurant
Good for an evening meal. Again one of the best in the city. Is on Vorosmarty Sqaure in the same building as the Gerbaud cafe. Worth making a reservation

Restaurants
For a bit of choice and atmosphere go the Liszt Ferenc Square. Off Andrassy Avenue, close to the Oktogon roundabout. There are a selection of restaurants here. The best known are Karma and Menza.
